Music director Aadesh Srivastava, expressed his ire at the trend of Pakistani artists coming to India and trying to become a part of the Indian music industry. “In no way is this a discrimination on the basis of one’s nationality or religion. The thing is. We’ve got enormous music talent in our own country, and there is no need to peep in the neighbouring country (Pakistan) for artists.” Srivastava said. He added that despite his being a big fan of Pakistani singers like Ghulam Ali, he nursed a grudge against them for not reacting to the 26/11 terror attacks in Mumbai. “I am deeply saddened that NO Pakistani artist reacted to the dastardly attacks in Mumbai, and I can never forget this,” he said. And Srivastava is not alone. He’s found support in playback singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya, who has been very vocal about his discontent against Pakistani artists in India. “India is entertaining people who are taking from you without ever giving back anything in return. They (Pakistanis) have never promoted Indian singer.” he said. Even as the industry people hold such views, there are others like Pritam, who feel that “they’re singers, and not Pakistanis or Indians.”
